Steam Prison: Past Imperfect

The characters, artwork, music, sound, and all other Steam Prison assets used in this project remain the property of Hunex & dramatic create. Neither this project nor its developer are affiliated with Hunex or dramatic create.

Steam Prison: Past Imperfect is a fan-made fan disk that uses visual and audio assets as well as the world and characters from the Steam Prison series of games developed by Hunex & dramatic create (published by MangaGamer in the US). It is intended to be a transformative work with no intention to profit from, claim ownership of, or compete with any existing or future Steam Prison games.

I am not the creator or owner of the original Steam Prison game's graphics (art and UI), audio (sound effects and voiceovers), Steam Prison-specific Ren'Py screen code (menus, etc.), and the Steam Prison world. I did create this fan-project and wrote its script, edited its graphics and sound assets, and put everything together for it in the Ren'Py visual novel game engine.

About

Steam Prison: Past Imperfect follows the story of Cyrus Tistella from her arrival in the Depths as a HOUNDS officer, to her return to the Heights after several key events that involve Sachsen, Ines, Fin, and other Steam Prison characters. Its main route,  "Legacy Route," is a Sachsen route that branches off from the "Warder Route" continuity of the official Steam Prison game (Fin DLC).

After Fin takes the fall for the murder of Cyrus's parents and is sent to the Depths as a criminal, Cyrus is transferred to the HOUNDS to serve as one of Sachsen's officers. From there, Legacy Route deviates greatly from the original story while keeping some of the original themes and plotlines. It primarily intends to bring better closure to Sachsen's backstory (particularly regarding his history with Theia and subsequent "issues"), and develop a more interesting relationship between him and Cyrus than Another Theory did (in my opinion). 

As for other characters, Ines features very prominently in Sachsen's route as Cyrus's mentor, and his own route is also in development somewhat in parallel. A Fin route is planned for later as well, and several of the main Steam Prison characters will play big roles in each route (although I don't plan to write any routes beyond the three aforementioned guys).

Developer's Note

Hey all! I'm a big Steam Prison fan and wanted to make a fan route after being somewhat disappointed with the fan disk routes, particularly the one for Sachsen.

So, as one does when one is overly invested in the fate of fictional anime characters, over the last month I dumped a ungodly number of hours into developing a prototype in Renpy of a Sachsen route.

I don't claim to be more capable than the original devs so I may very well fail in my endeavor (and probably definitely will fail to bring about the elusive Cyrus/Sachsen kiss CG situation because come on, it's them lmao). But I've at least had a blast working on this so far! My hope is that there are some fans out there who might enjoy this fan work as well.

Closed Beta Testing

If you're interested in beta testing what I have finished so far, please let me know! Bonus points if you have played through/are familiar with at least some of the plotlines and worldbuilding from the Grand Ending, Ines routes, or Fin DLC routes from the first game, as well as Another Theory's Sachsen route. I would be very grateful to receive feedback on the general quality (or lack there)of the game and its faithfulness to the original material after you're done. Graphics/Art Support

For the life of me, I cannot extract the new front/back Sachs bust art from Another Theory with any degree of quality. If you have strong photoshop-fu or Unity skills and think you can help me liberate the new Beyond the Steam portraits of the Trash Man so that players of Past Imperfect can enjoy him in all his garbage guy glory, please let me know. Bonus points if you can also help me make a better logo/title screen or clean up my janky Ren'Py code!
